In the past few years, David F. Walker has made a name for himself in comic circles. He wrote the official comic adaptation of Shaft for Dynamite Comics, and he went on the write several black characters for Marvel and DC. His work reimagines these classic black characters with a sense of potential offered by the concept while embracing the revolutionary aspects of the black superhero. He is someone we should be engaging with to better understand the current black superhero landscape. His work with characters like Luke Cage and Cyborg have moments of transformation that think about the original context and re-imagine them in what can only be described as more liberatory.
