African Diaspora Design Vision

Christian Benimana is a leading voice calling for an equitable, just, and sustainable world through design. He founded the African Design Centre, an innovative, field-based apprenticeship program that equips the next generation of African designers with socially-focused design principles. As the Co-Executive Director and Senior Principal at MASS Design Group, Christian leads the Africa Studio, where he has overseen a diverse portfolio of projects that exemplify his commitment to socially responsible design. As an African voice in a field long defined by European perspective, he captures the ways contemporary Afrofuturist practice is increasingly guided by African voices and vision. This TED talks called attention to the transformative potential. As we continue to see the shifts in economic and social practice created by changing technology evolving geopolitical relationships, the solutions and perspective from Africa will be more important. It is crucial that we engaged with the continent’s thought leaders to be better prepared for tomorrow.
